Data Description:

Includes the current aggregate book value of all loans and investments associated with highly-leveraged transactions, purchased from others by the consolidated bank or by the bank holding company organization or by the reporting branch or agency, including its IBF. This total represents the amount of HLT loans and investments reported in items 6721, 6722, and 6740 (for the FR Y-9C report) and in items 6721, 5404, 6722, and 6740 (for the FFIEC 031-032 reports and the FFIEC 002 report).

In an assignment, the originating bank sells all or a portion of a credit facility to a purchaser and notifies the obligor. In this transaction, the originating bank assigns all of its rights and responsibilities to the purchaser and creates a direct relationship between the obligor and the purchaser.

In a participation, the originating bank sells all or a portion of a credit facility to a purchaser, but assigns only limited rights, usually related to interest rates, maturities, and principal, to the purchaser. Participants do not get the same level of control as assignees.

Excludes syndications.
