Data Description:
Includes the amount of valuation allowances on assets purchased (including those acquired in a business combination accounted for under the purchase method) for which a direct charge-off was not taken. Under certain circumstances the valuation allowances previously established by the seller may be carried forward to the purchasers' records.
Does not includes: (1) Additional valuation allowances established after the acquisition, even if the valuation allowances should have been established by previous management; report all such additions in item 4517; and (2) Valuation allowances acquired in a pooling merger; these are added to the beginning balances.
NOTE:
Beginning 3/31/03, "Acquisitions" changed to "Adjustments" to include a portion of credit-card charge-offs.
