Data Description:
Total unpaid principal balance of loans secured by 1-4 family residential properties (in domestic offices)* for which formal foreclosure proceedings to seize the real estate collateral have started and are ongoing as of quarter-end, regardless of the date the foreclosure procedure was initiated. Loans should be classified as in process of foreclosure according to local requirements. If a loan is already in process of foreclosure and the mortgagor files a bankruptcy petition, the loan should continue to be reported as in process of foreclosure until the bankruptcy is resolved. Exclude loans where the foreclosure process has been completed and the bank holding company reports the real estate collateral as "Other real estate owned". This item should include both closed-end and open-end 1-4 family residential mortgage loans that are in process of foreclosure.
