Research and Statistics

The Division of Research and Statistics is responsible for developing and presenting economic and financial data and analysis for the use of the Board, the Federal Open Market Committee, and other Federal Reserve System officials. This information serves as background for the formulation and conduct of monetary, regulatory, and supervisory policies. In addition, the division fosters a broader understanding of issues relating to economic policy by providing leadership in economic and statistical research and by supplying data and analyses for public release.

Program Direction

Program Direction mobilizes available resources to accomplish the division's mission. The official staff in Program Direction are responsible for identifying the needs of System policymakers, shaping objectives and plans to meet those needs, and implementing the division's program either through their own professional efforts or by guiding or directing the work of others. They are responsible for ensuring the quality and timeliness of written material and oral presentations to the Board and the FOMC, and for providing leadership and oversight in the other statistical, research, and current analysis activities of the division. In addition to their responsibilities for management and administration within the division, they participate in Board and System management and oversight committees and represent the Federal Reserve in external fora, including interagency groups and international organizations.
